AADA and Cox Automotive Dealer Sentiment Index Survey

The AADA and Cox Automotive Australia (owners of CarsGuide, Dealer Solutions, Manheim and Autotrader) are conducting the third Cox Automotive Australia Dealer Sentiment Index survey (CAADSI).

The survey is designed to take around eight minutes to complete and the results will be used to provide a comparative measure of Dealer sentiment, taking in to account market trading conditions, economic barriers and dealer attitudes towards profitability.

The survey will be sent electronically to all Dealers over the coming week.

Please take a moment to share your opinions and recent experience by completing the 8-minute CAADSI survey.

On behalf of the AADA and Cox Automotive Australia, thank you for participation and support.

Updates to AADA DealerNomics website

The AADA have updated DealerNomics to include the revised federal electoral boundaries and the newly elected members of the 46th Parliament. The AADA has also increased the accuracy of the data by geo-coding each dealership in Australia to the electorate, as the basis for all of the economic contributions. Further, each dealership has been weighted based on the market share for the franchise/s they represent. This allows franchised new car Dealers to display the vital economic contributions made by their businesses to individual federal electorates and associated communities.

New car Dealers turnover almost $60 billion worth of sales, they collect billions in government duties and charges and employ more than 58,000 people in electorates across Australia.

We encourage members to pay their local Member and/or Senator a visit and demonstrate to them through DealerNomics, the important contribution which car Dealers make in their electorate.

FADA Auto Retail Conclave

AADA CEO James Voortman and AADA convention Director Patrick Tessier attended the FADA (Federation of Automobile Dealers Association) Auto Retail Conclave this week in New Dehli, India. At the request of FADA Mr Voortman outlined in his Keynote Address the importance of an Automotive Code of Conduct and the strength of effective advocacy to Government for Dealers. “Mr Voortman’s address was a highlight of the second Annual Auto Retail Conclave adding an international perspective on Dealer relations and gave an insight to the work we need to do in the future,” Mr Nikunj Sanghi, past President of FADA, said. Mr Tessier participated in an Industry Panel on the digital transformation of the Indian automotive market. “In a market that sells 3 million vehicles a year India will be at the forefront of a modern growing automotive marketplace that will rely heavily on an online environment for its future,” Mr Tessier said. In a market that is full of exciting opportunity and many challenges AADA was pleased to be a part of the FADA Auto Retail Conclave and looks forward to furthering our international relationship with FADA.

Ford GTHO Lot 6 Foundation Fundraiser

The legendary Ford Falcon GTHO celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and muscle car enthusiast delegates will have the opportunity to meet some of the crew who developed the race car on Stand 59 and buy tickets to the big celebration party. The party will be held on Sunday 13 October, the day of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at the birthplace of the GTHO, 224 Mahoneys Road, Thomastown where Foundation director, Peter Dietze has transformed the building back to its original workshop layout.

Tickets are $250 per head that includes the day’s activities and food and beverages. Ticket sales will go towards the Ford GTHO Lot 6 Foundation to fund young automotive mechanics and technicians who dream to become involved in motor racing at the highest levels.

You can buy tickets at the AADA expo in booth 59 or on their website.

The party starts with a ground kissing ceremony at 9.00 am with the day concluding at the end of the race. There will be restored GTHO cars on display plus a host of memorabilia and prizes to be won while guests can view the race on a massive 3m x 2m digital screen over lunch.

The iconic Ford Falcon GTHO changed the face of motor racing in Australia and ‘Big Al’ Turner, the man behind this incredible car is coming out from the US to be there as guest of honour along with some of the engineers, mechanics and technicians.

The little-known not-for-profit foundation that has been around since 2009 is reviving its objectives and currently talking to the Kangan Institute and the RMIT University about a post graduate program of subjects to cover every aspect of racing car development and preparation.

The Foundation’s recently appointed Executive Director, David Blackhall, said although the original concept was well-intentioned, the idea was simply not feasible back then as there was no substantial funding available. The logistics, plant and equipment would have cost millions of dollars to bring to fruition, he said.

“Instead of starting with raw talent, we re-visited and revived the program with a crawl before you walk approach by offering young people who have completed their apprenticeships as automotive mechanics or technicians a post-graduate course.

“They already understand how internal combustion engines work but do not have the skills to prepare a car for racing. We can provide data and people who can assist educational institutions to teach them. Our Lot 6 engineers can make meaningful contributions to developing a curriculum for post graduate courses to include subjects such as how to improve the performance of engines, balance chassis, use aerodynamics to advantage, improve suspension and steering and how to select transmission and differential ratios,” he said.

“To survive as a not-for-profit organisation, we have to rely on donations, sponsorships and major fund-raising programs to support our activities.

“In this regard, we will be talking to companies already committed to motor sport in Australia, seeking their financial support to help fund the post-graduate courses and give them the opportunity to be part of a vital piece of history,” he said.

AADA Panel Sessions Tackle the Big Issues

AADA National Dealer Conventions are a time when Dealers from around the country get together to hear from experts on the big issues facing our industry. One of the key pillars of this year’s Convention is the panel program, with four sessions featuring industry leaders tackling some hot topics.

One of the hottest issues facing our industry is the pending introduction of an Automotive Code of Conduct, and our panel ‘The Franchise Code and what it means for Franchised Dealers’, hosted by David Blackhall, will take a good hard look at what the code might look like, and what it means for Dealers.

Another huge issue is that of gender diversity in our workforce. In ‘Gender Diversity in Dealerships’, we will celebrate the leading and most influential women working in the automotive industry. We will hear their stories, explore their views on the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women working in automotive, and where they see the opportunities for improvement across the industry.

Our F&I industry panel, ‘Dealership F&I: 2020 + Beyond’, will discuss the ramifications of developments coming out of the recent investigations by ASIC and the ACCC, plus the prospect of changes to point of sale exemptions.

In ‘ROI: 2020 + Beyond’, host Dale McCauley and panel will investigate whether today’s business and operating model still the best way to maximise your ROI – and if not, what alternatives exist.

For full details on these panels, as well as the entire AADA National Dealer Convention & Expo program, visit the website at aadaconvention.com.au.

First SA Dealership to Host ANCAP Car

The AADA has continued its partnership with ANCAP and displayed a crash-tested Toyota Corolla Hybrid hatch at CMI Toyota’s West Terrace showroom. This is the first ANCAP car to be displayed in a dealership in South Australia.

Displaying a crashed car in a dealership assists sales staff to visually demonstrate the safety features on a car and bring safety into the sales conversation.

If you would like to be involved and host an ANCAP crashed car in your dealership, please contact Sharnee Pardy.
