Last year the ACCC released a new fact sheet to advise consumers regarding the consumer guarantees that they have under the Australian Consumer Law, beyond any Manufacturer’s warranty or any extended warranty that they may have.
The ACCC requested that, as a matter of best industry practice, new car suppliers should provide a copy of the fact sheet to every consumer at the point of sale as part of the package of written materials provided at the time of purchase.
The ACCC have also indicated that certain purchasers of commercial and heavy vehicles will be defined as ‘consumers’ under the legislation depending on their use of the vehicle, so the fact sheet should be included for these purchasers.
