The AADA welcomed the opportunity to respond to the NSW Parliamentary Transport and Infrastructure Committee Inquiry into infrastructure for electric and alternative energy source vehicles in NSW.
As the new car market changes rapidly, electric vehicle (EV) uptake in Australia is still being hampered by high upfront costs relative to comparable internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, lack of consumer choice in the vehicles Australians want, lack of charging infrastructure and range anxiety, particularly in regional and rural areas. The AADA believes franchised new car dealers should be at the forefront of the transition, as they are the primary point of contact for consumers. To support customers through this shift, dealers are required to invest significantly in equipment, training, and charging infrastructure, ensuring they can continue to deliver essential service and repair functions to their communities.
