The Australian Government began a comprehensive review of the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 (MVSA) in 2014 including public consultation over three years. The Road Vehicles Standards Bill 2018 is intended to replace the MVSA to implement reforms to the regulatory framework for the safety, environmental and anti-theft performance of all road vehicles being provided to the Australian market for the first time – both new and used. The Bill was introduced into the Parliament on 7 February 2018.
