It’s been a turbulent month in Federal Politics which has seen Malcolm Turnbull dumped as Australia’s Prime Minister and replaced by Scott Morrison. The new Prime Minister has announced his ministerial team and there has been a significant change in the Ministerial offices affecting our industry.
Josh Frydenberg was elected the Deputy leader of the Liberal Party and has assumed the role of Treasurer. The Treasury portfolio is vital for the AADA in our push for an Automotive Code of Conduct and the new Treasurer will be supported by new Assistant Treasurer, Stuart Robert, and the Assistant Minister for Treasury and Finance, Zed Seselja.
In terms of the other portfolios with an interest in the Code, the new Industry Minister is Karen Andrews and Michaelia Cash is the Minister for Small Business. Alan Tudge replaces Paul Fletcher as the Urban Infrastructure Minister and will have carriage of motor vehicle standards and likely vehicle emissions. The new Environment Minister, Melissa Price, and the Energy Minister, Angus Taylor, are also likely to be involved in the emissions work.
The AADA is in the process of reaching out to all of these offices and will be seeking meetings as a matter of urgency to brief the new ministers on the importance of the new car retail industry.
